Pro-Audio Developers Adopt PACE Anti-Piracy’s New iLok Smart Key
USB Device Allows Portability of Software Authorization; Distribution Agreements Ensure Convenient Access for Pro-Audio Software Users

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA – March 5, 2001– PACE Anti-Piracy Inc., a leader in the development of anti-piracy systems for software developers, today announced partnerships with a number of pro-audio industry leaders, including Bomb Factory, Digidesign, and Steinberg, to incorporate PACE’s new iLok hardware key into upcoming software products. iLok is a USB "smart key" device that enables software publishers to authorize the use of their products more securely and conveniently than ever before. The agreements announced today are designed to create easy access for developers and end users to the iLok Smart Key through multiple product bundling channels and retail distribution.

iLok, a revolutionary extension of conventional hardware-key technology, is designed to solve a number of issues associated with traditional copy protection methods, increasing distribution options for software publishers and making the process of software authorization more convenient for the end user.

Partnerships Announced
While PACE anticipates applications for iLok across a broad range of software markets, the three partnership agreements PACE announced today are targeted at the pro-audio software industry:

• PACE’s agreement with Los Angeles-based Bomb Factory, publisher of award-winning pro-audio tools such as SansAmpTM, Classic CompressorsTM, and MoogerfoogerTM, has resulted in all of the company’s recently released plug-ins being iLok-enabled. Bomb Factory president Erik Gavriluk is an avid supporter of the new device. "Our concern is not only to protect our products, but to make the solution as convenient as possible for our customers to use," says Gavriluk. “We see iLok as a secure platform for delivering all of our products to all of our customers.”

• The agreement with Palo Alto-based Digidesign is multifaceted. Starting this month, Digidesign will be facilitating iLok's availability in retail channels through their network of dealers. In Q2 2001, Digidesign will bundle iLoks with their high-end ProTools hardware systems as well as their Digi 001 home studio tools product. In addition, Digidesign will be offering a number of iLok-enabled upgrades and bundles throughout this year.

• Hamburg, Germany-based Steinberg is incorporating iLok into a number of new products that will be released later this year.

Pro-Audio Users Endorse iLok
PACE president Allen Cronce listed the following as illustrations of how iLok is already impacting pro-audio software users:

• Producer/mixing engineer Dave Sardy works with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and other top acts. "I'm always moving from studio to studio," he says, "and having all my gear up and running is essential, regardless of what studio I'm in. Finally, using my software in different locations is just as easy as plugging in a microphone."

•Rock star/philanthropist Courtney Taylor-Taylor, founder of The Dandy Warhols, recently purchased all ten of Bomb Factory's new plug-ins. In return, he received a CD and an iLok. "Five minutes after I'm home, I'm making music with amazing new effects on my Pro Tools rig," he said. "Man, this stuff just works."

• Composer and musical director Eban Schletter's vast credits include performing with Tool, scoring Billy Crystal's introductory sequence for the Oscars, and writing the theme music for Battlebots, a Comedy Central TV hit. He uses a wide variety of desktops, laptops and software packages, including MOTU Digital Performer and a variety of plug-ins. "iLok makes it easy for me to focus on my compositions, and lets me use my tools on whatever machine I need to use to perform a task--whether it's in a foreign studio, at home, or on the road using a laptop and FireWire MOTU interface."

Product Features and Benefits
PACE's iLok Smart Key includes the following features:

Support for multiple license authorizations in a single device. This feature allows the end user to authorize software programs, plug-ins, features, and modules–even those published by multiple developers–without being burdened by multiple keys. This feature represents a significant advance beyond current hardware key technologies.

Authorization portability. The new iLok technology enables end users to easily transfer authorization from one computer to another without violating the software publisher's license agreement. Because the software authorization information is stored on the secure iLok device, the end user is less susceptible to problems caused by computer crashes and corrupted hard disks.

Cross-platform support. iLok works on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Increased flexibility of distribution. Software publishers can now not only deliver authorization for new products and features via the Internet, telephone, and fax, but also in the form of low cost, small form factor license cards. Each iLok key has a built-in license card docking port that allows the end user to securely transfer authorizations between the two, further increasing a software publisher’s options for distribution.

Improved web purchase experience. With this latest version, authorizations can be delivered to InterLok-protected software over the Internet in a completely seamless way, making the end user web purchase experience simple and intuitive.

Seamless integration with InterLok the InterLok system. The InterLok system provides a complete security umbrella under which the iLok device offers new forms of software licensing protection. iLok’s capabilities are enabled by InterLok version 3.0, the latest release of PACE’s fifth generation tool set for authorizing, protecting, and distributing software that is widely used by developers of pro-audio, font, and graphics software products. InterLok version 3.0 supports all of the new iLok features on both Windows and Macintosh platforms, and incorporates a new state-of-the-art security architecture.
